TREND SPOTTING: Patterning through texture

Patterning through texture. Although this is not something totally new, what I really find interesting right now is where you see it showing up. Surfaces typically not known for sporting designer textures in the form of carving, cutting, stitching, etc… have been reimagined. Things like shoe soles, car seats, appliances, and just about any other surface previously plagued with a nondescript face. We say “great”. There is enough plain and flat in the world as far as we’re concerned.

Check out some of the things we think that pull it off particularly well.

1.) Automoblox Tire Treads
2.) Fossil Key-Per Nylon Messenger
3.) Ferm Living Short Knitted Vase
4.) Honeycomb Vase
5.) Ronel Jordaan’s Clustered Felted Stone Mat
6.) Nursery Works Dresser and Changing Table
7.) Simple Human Step Laundry Hamper
8.) Kenwood’s New Marine Speakers

Guilt Free Water

Good Life

I have to admit I am somewhat obsessed with my stainless steel water bottles. My 4th grade teacher Mrs. Murphy warned me that my OCD tendencies could manifest themselves into odd obsessions as an adult. Well, in this case it certainly does seem like she may have been onto something.

What’s not to love though? They can be cleaned with simple White Vinegar and water and they last forever, but not in the way plastic bottles do. 700 years it can take a plastic bottle to begin decomposing. No thanks, that is way too much guilt with my water. I rotate between the iconic Sigg, Kleen Kanteen and my new favorite bottle from Good Life Bottles. It’s 100% BPA-free, non-leaching & toxin-free. What makes it my favorite though is it’s made from recycled materials and has dual walls with a vacuum-seal cap. What does that mean to me and you? It keeps liquid hot or cold for up to 24 hours! None of my other bottles do that. No, I am not a paid spokesman, (although if they are looking for someone:) but would just love to see more people kick the plastic habit and do something so simple that could make such a huge difference.

On a side note check out what Sigg is doing with CafePress. The Sigg bottles are know for their design appeal. I personally think about buying one every time I walk by them in Whole Foods. But now they are offering different levels of customization such as adding your own pictures or words of wisdom.

Wall Flats available to International customers

Wovin

Inhabit is excited to announce we have secured distribution of our Wall Flats® in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines through wall and ceiling paneling specialists, Wovin Wall®. They were established in 2006 as a joint venture between Box and Dice, designers of the Wovin Wall® System and Instyle Contract Textiles.

They began much like Inhabit as a design firm producing and distributing their own product. Now, they offer a range of systems such as Wave, Ripple, Moov Acoustic panels and their newest addition, Inhabit Wall Flats. “We have been patiently searching for a like-minded partner to help us deliver Wall Flats to a broader International customer base and feel this is the perfect fit”, says Mike Tuttle at Inhabit. He also adds, “We are extremely excited that customers in AUS, NZ and parts of Southeast Asia will now have access to Wall Flats. This has been a very active area of the world in terms of seeking out how they can get the tiles, so having locally based distribution is a huge leap forward for us”.

Redesigning Harry Potter

Check out these beautiful book cover redesigns of the Harry Potter series by M.S. Corley.

I will admit I have not read any of the Harry Potter series. Actually I haven’t even seen any of the movies either. But I do like to read and if I would have seen one of these covers I sure think I would have picked one up and decided to start reading the series.

These are lovely and I guess I am judging a book by its cover! But don’t we all.

You Are Beautiful

YAB

I heard about the You are Beautiful project from Dave Combs here at Inhabit and just wanted to make sure more people knew about it.

You Are Beautiful is a simple, powerful statement which is incorporated into the over absorption of mass media and lifestyles that are wrapped in consumer culture. The intention behind this project is to reach beyond ourselves as individuals to make a difference by creating moments of positive self realization. We’re just attempting to make the world a little better. Intention is the most important aspect of the You Are Beautiful project in its idea of purity. Nothing is sacred. Everything that has a perceived value becomes commodified. We work extremely hard that this message is received as a simple act of kindness, and nothing more. Advertising elicits a response to buy, where this project elicits a response to do something. The attempt with You Are Beautiful is to create activism instead of consumerism. You Are Beautiful uses the medium of advertising and commercialization to spread a positive message. Projects like these make a difference in the world by catching us in the midst of daily life and creating moments of positive self realization. Take it all in here.

Sketchbooks on Tour
It’s like a concert tour but with sketchbooks. Thousands of sketchbooks will be exhibited at galleries and museums as they make their way on tour across the country. After the tour, all sketchbooks will enter into the permanent collection of The Brooklyn Art Library, where they will be barcoded and available for the public to view. Anyone – from anywhere in the world – can be a part of the project. To participate and have them send you a sketchbook that will go on tour, click here.
