WE LIKE – Unreal. Junk Food, Unjunked

Unreal started with a question from a kid. “Why does the junk food we love have to be so bad for us? Great question right? Well, it gets better from there. You have to check out this company and their story. It’s a big middle finger to all the mega-corporations who think they can sell us foods that cause disease and then sell us drugs to treat the diseases they are creating. Once again, it shows that nature in its purest form always gets it right. Corn syrup? Out. Partially hydrogenated oils? Out. GMOs? Out. Artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives? Out. Reduced sugar by over 40% per serving on average? Replaced with responsibly sourced ingredients, supporting farming communities and preventing destruction of the rain forests. All ingredients are non GMO and dairy comes from pasture raised cows with no antibiotics or added hormones. All ingredients your body recognizes and can put to work. Why? Because it’s the right thing to do.

Aside from the story itself they have products that are designed well, portioned into 200 calorie packages, tastes as good if not better than the competitor and is priced at or below what the junk is selling for. They really have left you no excuses if you are going to eat these types of treats, not to eat theirs. Their mission is simple and beautiful. Unjunk food.

IN THE REAL WORLD – Ellen & Kitchen Cousins

We recently participated in a project headed up by Ellen Degenres and the HGTV’s Kitchen Cousins. The project featured a complete home renovation while an unsuspecting family was sent on what they thought was a trip from The Ellen Show.

Check out some pics below of the project and our Chrysalis Wall Flats anchoring the main feature wall of the project.

Boxed Water is Better

At Inhabit we’re always on the lookout for outside-the-box ideas but here’s a company that’s thinking inside the box when it comes to sustainable packaging for water. Boxed Water is Better is a Michigan based company that is using – that’s right, boxes, also known as cartons, to package water. About 76% of the boxed water container is made from a renewable resource, trees. In addition to being made of a renewable resource, their unfilled boxes ship flat to their filler which is significantly more efficient when compared to shipping bottles. The boxes are also recyclable where facilities exist. And if that’s not enough goodness, when you drink Boxed Water is Better water you can also feel good about the fact that 20% of the profits will go back to supporting water and forestation organizations.

Guilt Free Water

Good Life

I have to admit I am somewhat obsessed with my stainless steel water bottles. My 4th grade teacher Mrs. Murphy warned me that my OCD tendencies could manifest themselves into odd obsessions as an adult. Well, in this case it certainly does seem like she may have been onto something.

What’s not to love though? They can be cleaned with simple White Vinegar and water and they last forever, but not in the way plastic bottles do. 700 years it can take a plastic bottle to begin decomposing. No thanks, that is way too much guilt with my water. I rotate between the iconic Sigg, Kleen Kanteen and my new favorite bottle from Good Life Bottles. It’s 100% BPA-free, non-leaching & toxin-free. What makes it my favorite though is it’s made from recycled materials and has dual walls with a vacuum-seal cap. What does that mean to me and you? It keeps liquid hot or cold for up to 24 hours! None of my other bottles do that. No, I am not a paid spokesman, (although if they are looking for someone:) but would just love to see more people kick the plastic habit and do something so simple that could make such a huge difference.

On a side note check out what Sigg is doing with CafePress. The Sigg bottles are know for their design appeal. I personally think about buying one every time I walk by them in Whole Foods. But now they are offering different levels of customization such as adding your own pictures or words of wisdom.

You Are Beautiful

YAB

I heard about the You are Beautiful project from Dave Combs here at Inhabit and just wanted to make sure more people knew about it.

You Are Beautiful is a simple, powerful statement which is incorporated into the over absorption of mass media and lifestyles that are wrapped in consumer culture. The intention behind this project is to reach beyond ourselves as individuals to make a difference by creating moments of positive self realization. We’re just attempting to make the world a little better. Intention is the most important aspect of the You Are Beautiful project in its idea of purity. Nothing is sacred. Everything that has a perceived value becomes commodified. We work extremely hard that this message is received as a simple act of kindness, and nothing more. Advertising elicits a response to buy, where this project elicits a response to do something. The attempt with You Are Beautiful is to create activism instead of consumerism. You Are Beautiful uses the medium of advertising and commercialization to spread a positive message. Projects like these make a difference in the world by catching us in the midst of daily life and creating moments of positive self realization. Take it all in here.
